Configuring a WebSpeed broker to connect to a database
This section describes how to use OpenEdge Management or OpenEdge Explorer to configure and start a WebSpeed broker with agents connected to your working copy of the Sports2000 database. Before you begin, you should have a database server started for your working copy of the database.
Note: The following procedure assumes that you have started OpenEdge Management or OpenEdge Explorer and have connected to the appropriate host machine.
To start a WebSpeed broker and WebSpeed agents in OpenEdge Management or OpenEdge Explorer:
1. Click Resources in the management console menu bar. Expand the container name; the main resource types appear in the list frame.
2. In the list frame, expand the OpenEdge category.
3. Expand the WebSpeed category, and select a WebSpeed Transaction Server Broker. The Details page for the broker appears in the detail frame.
4. In the Command and control section of the page, click Configuration. The WebSpeed Configuration page opens with that Broker's properties in focus.
5. Click the Agent tab.
6. Click Edit.
7. Add the pathname of your working copy of the Sports2000 database to Server startup parameters using the -db option; for example, -db C:\\WRK\sports2000.
Note: In this example, the database is located on the same machine as the WebSpeed broker with a shared memory connection. If the server for the database is running on a remote machine (or you want to use client/server mode), you must specify the host name (using the -H parameter) of the database's machine and the service name (using the -S parameter). For more information about client/server connections, see OpenEdge Application Server: Developing AppServer Applications.
8. Click Save.
9. Select wsbroker1 and choose Broker Control.
10. Click Start WebSpeed. After the WebSpeed broker starts, you can monitor its performance by clicking the Status link on the broker's Details page.
