There are three possible auditing states for your database:
Enabled — In an enabled state, access to the database is restricted and tracked by auditing:
Clients and servers from Release 10.0B and prior cannot start or connect to the database.
Audit privileges of clients from Releases 10.1A and forward are validated before granting access to the audit data, protecting your data from unauthorized access.
Database and application activity is audited according to active auditing policies.
Disabled — In a disabled state, access to the database is not restricted by auditing:
Clients and servers from Release 10.0B and prior can start and connect to the database.
Access to the audit data by clients from Release 10.1A and forward is disallowed.
Audit privileges of clients from Release 10.1A and forward are not validated.
Database activity is not audited.
Deactivated — In a deactivated state, access to the database is restricted by auditing:
Clients and servers from Release 10.0B and prior cannot start or connect to the database.
Access to the audit data by clients from Release 10.1A and forward is disallowed.
Audit privileges of clients from Release 10.1A and forward are not validated.
